MEET THE JONES FAMILY

Jessica Jones is excited to finally be a homeowner! She has been in the Habitat program for more than two years and can’t wait to finally move into her new home on Sturtevant Street. Jessica first heard about Habitat through Homes of Hope. She and her daughter Harmoni (3 years in December), and her niece Samiya (11 years) are ready to move out of their two-bedroom apartment that has been constantly in repair. “For a while they barely fixed anything…from a hole over the tub to our floor falling in!”
In one word, home means “peace” to Jessica and she wants to provide that for Harmoni and Samiya. “I’m just ready to move! What I didn’t have, I want to give to them.” Despite the age difference, Harmoni and Samiya are best friends, and both are excited about having their own rooms. Samiya loves to play games on her phone and do make-up and nails…a passion she likely gets from her aunt as Jessica has had a license to braid hair since she was 15, which has been a great side gig she says!
Harmoni is maybe more ready for her backyard since she loves to be outside but doesn’t have much safe outdoor space at their apartment complex. Jessica describes her as smart, sassy and “that girl is something else!”
Jessica also looks forward to having a home where she can invite her family and friends to visit. She was born and raised in the Greenville area in a large, blended family, with many siblings and half-siblings. She remains especially close to her mom. “She is my backbone,” according to Jessica and where she gets a large part of her “loving, caring and fun” personality.
Jessica also credits her family for helping her find her career in trucking. “I drive a dump truck and love it! It is so peaceful in the truck by myself…I can be in my own world.” Jessica has had her Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) since 2011 and has driven school buses for Greenville County and Legacy Charter School and now driven concrete and dump trucks for a few different companies. And if she ever gets tired of being on the road, she continues to braid hair and plans to learn how to do nails next!
Always willing to learn, Jessica especially enjoyed her budget and personal finance courses with Habitat while in the program. She also had “a ton of fun” with Colin while volunteering with fleet dispatch and learned that she loves to paint while she was on the construction site!
Jessica is grateful to the many staff and volunteers that have helped in her journey, and especially grateful for Creative Builders Inc. and Fitch Irick helping to sponsor her house!
We’re thankful for you too Jessica, welcome home!
